Why Your Social Advertising is Not Working


Ok, you just started your business. You have a new website and have built an amazing looking Facebook page for your business and your ready now to get followers and sell them your brand. Maybe you even decide on an Ad budget and you’ve created your first Ad and have sent it out to the FB world. Congratulations, maybe? Now instead of getting Likes and Views you now need a tissue because your crying like a baby and whining that nobody likes you everyone hates you and now you should go eat worms.

What went wrong? You studied and copied what other successful people have done in their Social Media advertising. You even go as far as to save amazing empowering quotes to build up your Instagram account for your brand and product. No one is paying attention. Did you think it was going to happen immediately?

Did you really think about it methodically? Early in the start of my Digital Agency I was much like you. Everyday fired up about doing what needed to be done, creating, developing and putting tons of effort in everything I was doing to grow my business. Then after about a year and half into it, about 12 years ago, I had a meeting with one of my favorite no bullshit mentors. He’s a millionaire now in the funding industry and he said something that shocked me to the core and changed my life and my business for the better.

He went through my whole business with a fine-tooth comb and overturned every rock. I remember the exact moment in a coffee shop where we were meeting when he told me exactly what I needed to hear. I did not exactly want to hear it, but I needed to hear it. See, I thought I had everything in place and had everything under control and percolating just fine. The issue was I was still not making that much money and only had a hand full of clients at the time.

What he said was, “Jeremy you are amazingly doing everything right, you’re just doing it in the wrong way.”, that was the most accurate thing that I ever heard at that moment.


What does this have to do with your business on Social Media? Well, I’m here to tell you that you're doing everything right, but YOU are doing it in the WRONG way. Getting your brand or product on Social Media just to do it is not doing it at all. There must be a purpose behind it.


I listen to Gary Vaynerchuk on YouTube every day. I understand a lot of the fundamentals he teaches, but to see it before me in my own business with our clients made it ring true to the core.

The book explains how managers, marketers and small businesses can capitalize on social media platforms like Facebook to increase their public profile. With Social Media it’s important to build your brand up first way before doing any actual advertising. Especially if you are a relatively new company, you would never want to run straight into having an ad budget and spend money pushing your product before anyone even knows anything about you or your product. That is why they are ignoring your ads now. A Platoon Sergeant does not just take a hill in enemy territory without first doing recon to see what’s on that hill before sending his platoon into battle on that hill. It’s about being smart.

I know your excited to get business and sell your brand or product, but you must till the ground up before you plant your seeds, or they will just blow away or get washed away.
